Shipping items to Mauritius
DE MINIMUS INFORMATION
Mauritius has a de minimus of 3000 MUR
De minimus is the value below which certain countries do not assess taxes and duties on shipments.
De minimis value significantly impacts eCommerce. This is because B2C orders are typically a much lower value than B2B, and a larger percentage of your shipments will clear duty and tax-free to specific countries. Shipments below the de minimis value will clear faster and provide an opportunity to get your shipments faster.
Please be aware that consolidating shipments will affect the value of your shipment and therefore the de minimus value as well.
Take note that many items can be received duty-free if the goods meet the rules of origin under free trade agreements.
IMPORT DUTIES AND TAXES
Mauritius has a relatively streamlined trade regime and over the past several years the government has taken steps to liberalize trade by lowering import tariffs over a wide range of products. Import tariffs are levied as specific tariffs and ad valorem tariffs. The ad valorem tariff rates currently range from zero to 30 percent, while the number of tariff bands currently stands at five (zero, five, 10, 15, and 30 percent).
Customs Duties are normally imposed on the CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) value of imported goods. Vehicles, petroleum, alcoholic drinks, and cigarettes are subject to excise duties. With some exceptions, goods imported into Mauritius are also subject to a 15 percent Value Added Tax (VAT)
