International delivery can make up a significant part of the total cost of an online order. Keeping your delivery costs down will end up saving you a lot of money.
INTERNATIONAL DELIVERY IS COMPLEX
Being located in Mauritius means that if you want to shop the world, your order needs to be delivered or couriered to you, crossing at least one international border (if you're shopping in countries near Mauritius). The further away you shop, the greater the distance, and the greater the number of borders that need to be crossed. Crossing borders is significant because different countries have different rules, and different delivery companies have different abilities and areas they deliver to.
For example. If you order a pair of shoes from an online Shoe Store in the USA, those shoes need to be delivered directly to you in Mauritius. That Shoe Shop may use a shipping company that only delivers inside of the USA. Therefore your shoes get collected by the first company and handed over to a second delivery company that either delivers to Mauritius, or close to Mauritius (like South Africa). Once your shoes arrive in South Africa they need to be handed over to a third Delivery Company who will deliver to you inside Mauritius.
More distance means more complexity, which means more cost!
ONLINE STORES AREN'T DELIVERY SPECIALISTS
Online stores don't specialise in delivery. While they may offer a delivery solution, their primary goal and skill is selling their products to the world. Their expertise isn't getting the product you ordered to you. If the store is arranging the delivery, while they'll do their best to choose a good delivery partner, you can't be sure it's the cheapest, fastest or safest delivery company.
If something happens to your order during delivery, you will often have to take it up with the Delivery Company that you didn't choose to begin with.
Secondly, not all online stores have delivery or courier partners that deliver to Mauritius. This is often because their delivery partner doesn't have a network that delivers to Mauritius. Because the Online Store isn't a delivery specialist they'll not have the time or skill to help you, and so on check-out when you type in your Mauritius address, you'll be told they can't deliver to you. This means that you'll either miss out on a great deal, or you'll not be able to buy the product you wanted.
